Even if it seems you've only just entered the summer cycle in your training log and begun to appreciate those extra hours of sunlight, now is the time to look ahead and enjoy some bargain hunting for autumn races. This Sunday marks the final day of the month and is also the cut-off for many reduced entry options; here are just a few that we came across.
For lovers of the great outdoors, the Lakeland Trails events represent a fantastic opportunity to venture into the world of trail running. Their autumn series includes races in Keswick (7 September), Coniston (5 October) and Helvellyn (2 November). Early bird entry for all three closes on Sunday.
PB seekers and first-timers will be hard pushed to find a better opportunity than the City of Salford 10K and 5K on 8 September. With a revamped start point along the wide boulevard of The Quays, the 10k event promises an even faster course than last year. The entry fee prior to 30 June is £12 (£13.50 for non-affiliated) for the 10k, while the 5k is priced at £10 (£12).
As reported on Monday, this year's Spire Healthcare English Half Marathon is shaping up to be a spectacular event with the RAF parachute display team making an entrance at the start line. Organised for 8 September, the event takes competitors from a picturesque, tree-lined start point at Victoria Park through the southern communities of Warrington. The summer entry price allows prospective runners to register for £24 (£26 non UKA-affiliated).
