South Shields will be welcomed into the parkrun family this Saturday (20 April) as it prepares to stage its inaugural event. Taking place in The Leas, the South Shields event will become the north east's 14th parkrun.
Starting at the promenade next to Gypsies Green stadium and the Sand Dancer pub, the course follows a scenic coastal path until the marshalled turnaround point. Unlike other parkruns, the route doesn't turn back on itself, with runners finishing on Coast road. The course is run on a mixture of trail and concrete paths, with the starting area on sand.
Even though the opening event is still to take place, it has attracted considerable attention in the area, with the South Shields parkrun facebook page already boasting over 200 likes. More information is available on the parkrun website.
