As New Year approaches and resolutions take shape, runners will no doubt be scanning through the calendar for possible races. For those with a fondness for endurance events, this June sees the first ever Trans Pennine Challenge, which entails either a 50k or 100k run set against the backdrop of the Peak District.

Due to take place on 22/23 June, the 100k takes runners from Disdbury, Manchester through the Peak District to Penistone, before moving on to Sheffield and the finishing point at the Don Valley Stadium. The distance is split into 4 stages, with major rest points every 25k and check-points at 12.5k. The 50k run follows a similar format but finishes at Penistone.

The events, which are organised by Action International, can also be walked or completed as part of a relay team, are looking to attract up to 1500 competitors. The Trans Pennine Challenge team is hoping to raise £1 million, with those taken part given a £275 (50k) or £400 (100k) minimum sponsorship target.

For anyone interested in pencilling in the challenge for 2013, organisers are offering reduced registration until the end of December, with entry priced at £40 and £65 for the 50k and 100k respectively (£60 and £85 otherwise). Full event details at the Trans Pennine Challenge website.
