The Hipster Olympics

With Olympic fever beginning to extend beyond pandemonium, Germany hosted its very own take on the Games last weekend with the Hipster Olympics. Consisting of nine ironic sports events, 6,000 hip Berliners converged to present their very own stylised version of London 2012.

The Original Hipster Olympics Committee selected teams and competitors were pitted against each other in such events as a jute-bag race, a horn-rimmed-glasses-throwing contest, a vinyl-spinning marathon and a skinny-jeans tug-of-war.

While the day may not have been an exhibition of the attributes generally associated with Olympians, strength, endurance or commitment, the self-stylised parody seemed to embody part of the enjoyment the Games bring.
