Taking place entirely within the grounds of Aintree Racecourse, the home of the Grand National, the Grand 10K Run at Aintree looks likely to emerge as one of the most unique races in the northern calendar. The inaugural event, organised by Sports Tours International, is set for Sunday 22 September.
The 10k passes some of the most famous and iconic names in British horseracing history including The Chair and Becher's Brook, Red Rum and the Winning Post, and along Melling Road. The course is described as predominantly flat and conducive for fast times.
Graham Jackson, race director at Sports Tours International, commented: "We are really excited to be launching this fantastic event. It's a great opportunity for people to take part in the first Grand 10K Run at one of the UK's most iconic racing grounds. We have worked closely with Aintree to deliver a great route to make it enjoyable for all runners. It's on a route of closed roads making it a safe environment in which to run."
For runners interested in taking part, organisers are offering half price until 25 August, meaning registration is set at a highly competitive £8 (or £9 for non-club runners). All finishers will receive a free Sports Tours International rucksack. For more information, visit the event website.
