The Lakeland Trails team have made their first venture in to the ultra scene with news of a 100k and 50k event on Saturday 14 September. The 100k is said to be the first of its kind set in the Lake District and is being billed as the most picturesque ultra marathon in the UK.
Starting and finishing in the private grounds at Brockhole, Lake District National Park Visitor Centre, Windermere, the 100km Ultimate Trails Ultra takes in a complete circuit of the central Lake District, along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways. The tough, challenging course is worth 3 UTMB entry credit points.
The 100km Ultimate Trails Ultra is split into two events - the Challenge, for less competitive ultra runners, novice trail ultra runners and those who want to take it easy and enjoy the views. The Challenge gives you extra time to complete the course. The Race is for more competitive ultra runners, with winners prizes and a shorter time limit.
In addition to the 100k, there will be a 50k Ultimate Trails Ultra Marathon, which utilises the final 50k section of the 100k course. The event is designed for those wanting a shorter option, and is a great stepping stone into the world of Ultra running.
With organisers limiting entry to 300, there's just 35 places of the allocation now remaining. To register, visit the event website.
