Nova International, in partnership with the Daily Mirror, The Journal, The Chronicle and The Gazette are offering 10,000 free tickets to the Great North Run Million Opening Ceremony. The event, which marks the first running event in the world to reach its millionth finish, is set for Thursday 4 September.
The free tickets will be distributed on a first come first served basis and are available to those have entered the Great North Run in the past 33 years. Confirmed to perform at the event is Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler, with the ceremony staged by the creative team behind the London 2012 and Paralympic Opening ceremonies.
Brendan Foster, chairman of Nova International said, “The response we’ve had since announcing our plans for the event has been overwhelming. The idea of celebrating such a landmark occasion in a big way has clearly resonated, throughout the region and beyond.
“Additional support from our partners, the Daily Mirror and the Journal, means we are able to offer 10,000 tickets free of charge. We’re delighted to be able to take this opportunity to say thank you to the real stars of the show - the runners who have allowed us to achieve this momentous milestone.”
Anyone who has ever completed the Bupa Great North Run can apply for their free ticket by entering their first and last names and the year they ran before Friday 25 July: you can do so here.
