Tokyo Marathon

Entries are now open for the Tokyo Marathon on 22 February 2015. The race is the sixth and most recent World Marathon Major, and 35,000 competitors are expected to take part in the event next year.

A British runner who took part in the 2014 race was Donna Richards who won her place by entering a Sports Tours International competition. She said of her experience: "Tokyo ticked all the boxes for me. It’s one of these events you just have to do at some point in your life. I really enjoyed the course. Tokyo’s a wonderful city to run around with lots of interesting sights."

The race begins in front of the impressive Tokyo Metropolitan Government building before passing by numerous sightseeing spots including the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Tower, then finishing at the Tokyo Big Sight Convention Centre.

As well as the marathon there is a 10k held on the same day and an international friendship run the day before. The friendship run is approximately 5k and allows international runners the chance to socialise and experience Japanese culture.

Sports Tours International offers a variety of travel packages for Tokyo Marathon. They say: “Alongside running one of the most popular marathons in world, you also have the chance to join us for a once in a lifetime trip to Mt Fuji!  You will learn fascinating facts about the mountain, ascend to the 5th Station (weather permitted), cruise on Lake Ashi, and ride to the top of Mont Komagatake where you will be welcomed with awe inspiring views by aerial cableway.”
