Tour Of Tameside Builds Foundations For Future Years

Sports Tours International, organiser of the iconic Tour of Tameside, has confirmed that New Charter Homes will be its official partner for the next two years. The partnership stands to further underline the successful re-emergence of the Tour, which returned in 2015 and quickly regained its reputation as one of the North West's most distinctive events.

New Charter Homes, also charity partners in 2015 and 2016, is well known in both Tameside and the North West of the UK as a social landlord with 19,500 homes, a turnover of £100 million and a workforce of around 850 people.
Chris Bird, chief executive of Sports Tours International, said the partnership was key to strengthening ties with those working in the area: “We are delighted to welcome New Charter Homes on board again for another two years.”

"The Tour of Tameside is an event that involves many areas of the local community and it perfectly fits Sports Tours International's objectives of getting the borough on the move. New Charter as leaders in community engagement and builders of great neighbourhoods for great people is a perfect partner for the event.

The Tour, founded by Dr. Ron Hill in 1983, was re-introduced in 2015 and proved to be an immediate success with over 500 runners taking part. This year resulted in a further upturn with competitors thriving on the multi-stage format and enjoying a fitting finale at Hyde Town Hall. In December, an evening was organised to celebrate all the elements, past and present, that make the Tour so special – a Talk of the Tour will now be held each year.

Looking ahead to 2017, the Tour of Tameside will once again be held over four days, starting with the 10K X Trail on Thursday 15 June and concluding with the Dr. Ron Hill 7 Mile Race. As with previous years, entrants who want to be a part of the Tour of Tameside but don’t want to commit to four consecutive days of running, can take up the opportunity of ‘Single Stage Entries’, which allows them to run one, two or three individual races.
