The Tour of Tameside has presented runners in the region with a further reason to compete in June’s event after striking a partnership with Active Tameside. The arrangement will allow a relay team of four to tackle one stage each of the race to cumulatively complete the Full Tour of Tameside.
Organised by Sports Tours International, the Tour of Tameside, founded by Dr. Ron Hill in 1983 was re-introduced in 2015 and quickly regained its reputation as one of the North West's most distinctive events.
The previous two years have underlined its successful re-emergence with competitors thriving on the multi-stage format. In December, an evening was organised to celebrate all the elements, past and present that make the Tour so special – a Talk of the Tour will now be held each year.
News of the partnership with Active Tameside, who provide a range of sport, physical activity and health improvement services in leisure facilities and school and community settings, further underlines the event’s importance within the region.
The relay is open to teams of four participants, can be mixed gender, is exclusive to non-club runners and on offer for the winners is the Active Tameside Tour Relay Trophy and other prizes from Active Tameside. Kevin Harmer, UK Event & Sponsorship Manager at Sports Tours International said: “We are delighted to work once more with Active Tameside on the Active Tameside Relay.
“It is a completely new and unique way in which runners can participate in the event, with three friends or colleagues to complete the Full Tour. The Relay will open up the Tour of Tameside to even more runners, so now is the time to get together and #makeithappen.”
The 2017 Tour will commence on Thursday 15 June until Sunday 18 June, with the Dr. Ron Hyde 7 Mile Race closing the event. Further information, including details on single-race entry and the relay event, is available here.
