It's just over three months until the 2018 Tour of Tameside and organisers Sports Tour International have issued a call to arms to North West runners and to the local community. Re-introduced in 2015 the 'four races in four days' series attracts 1,000s of local and 'not-so-local' runners with entries already in from as far afield as Australia.

Confirming that the multi-stage event will again partner with leisure services provider Active Tameside, Sports Tours International's Kevin Harmer told runABC North: "This is a great opportunity for the whole community to get involved."

Kevin Harmer agreed that the full Tour of Tameside programme is a test for even the fittest runners with four races over four days - a total of 32 miles across a testing mix of road, trail and fell. "Experienced runners tell us that the toughest challenge is to be in race shape on Saturday morning at the Hero Half Marathon after completing leg 2 - the Hell On The Fell Race - just 12 hours earlier."

But Kevin underlined that each of the races could be entered separately and were accessible to occasional 5k or 10k runners. He said: "Sunday's Dr Ron Hyde 7 Mile Race is a great finale to the Tour and always attract a great mix of club and fun runners."

Sports Tour International is also encouraging anyone entering a Tour event to get 'race-ready' at their local sports centre. Kevin said: "You'll get great advice at any one of Active Tameside's facilities and the chance to cross-train and support your weekly runs."

Kevin is inviting anyone interested in being part of one of Tameside's top sporting events to sign up as volunteer: "There is a fantastic atmosphere throughout the Tour and even those not particularly sport-minded will get a buzz out of helping making the Tour of Tameside happen.

"And that amazing atmosphere is provided by large numbers of Mancunians and local charities who provide rousing support along each of the four race routes. It will be great to see you again in June."

Kevin said that Ron Hill will again be involved in supporting the Tour of Tameside in 2018.
