South Manchester proved it may well host one of the fastest events on the circuit with many of the 800 strong field at Sunday’s (13 March) Trafford 10K recording PBs. Runners were treated to fine spring weather and perfect racing conditions as Tom Lancashire and Juliet Potter secured top places in their respective fields.
Organised by Altrincham and District AC, the race saw 809 participants depart from Partington Leisure Centre in south Manchester. Bolton Harriers’ Lancashire fended off competition from Swedish runner David Nilsson (29:01) to take first place and a PB of 28:56, with Mohammad Abu-Rezeq in third position (29:09).
In the women’s competition, Charnwood’s Potter, seventh at last month’s Brooks Alsager 5, crossed the line in 33:50, with Rebecca Robinson second (34:06) and Eleanor Davis third (34:13). Mid-point in the field was Melanie Barber in a relatively fast 43:00, while the last runner came home in 1:23:56.
A post on the event’s Facebook page read: “The race was blessed with beautiful weather, the atmosphere was superb, lots of smiling faces and a heap of personal best times. From the winner Tom Lancashire who ran a super fast 28:56 to the amazing Barbara Thackrey last runner home at 78 years young, you were all fantastic.”
