Runners with a social conscience can take advantage of Up and Running's shoe amnesty until 14 September at one of 24 store collection points across the UK. The progressive specialist running retailer has teamed up with European Recycling Company (ERC) to encourage and motivate people to understand that a well-worn shoe doesn’t mean that it has come to the end of its use, and that shoes can live on and help many people throughout the world.
To support this Up and Running are encouraging runners to bring their shoes along to participating stores and to donate them for recycling as part of a month long shoe amnesty. Runners, gym enthusiasts, friends, family, in fact anyone who has some shoes to donate are encouraged to come along to Up and Running to recycle their old shoes. To support this, and to also keep people active Up and Running will also give the person who donates the shoe 10% off a brand new pair, do a free gait analysis and give them a free pair of Groundhog Socks worth £8.
The scheme has two main benefits - a reduction in landfill in the UK; and reuse in the developing world.
