Preparations for the first Wakefield Marathon are gathering pace with more than 500 runners expected to take part on Sunday (29 June). The event, which also includes a half marathon and family fun-run, starts and finishes at Nostell Priory.
Organised by TeamOA, the marathon takes runners on a multi-terrain two-lap route down Swine Lane then through Havercroft and Ryhill and past Navvy Lane in Notton. Competitors will then run around Waterton Countryside Discovery Centre, past Anglers Country Park, before heading back to Nostell.
Wane Law, from TeamOA, told northernrunningguide.com: “There’s a real buzz here about the first ever race and everything is hectic, but in a good way! We’re all really looking forward to the event and had loads of entries flooding in over the weekend.”
For anyone looking to take part, entries are open until midnight today Friday (27 June). More information is available on the event website.
