They might be arch rivals on the rugby pitch but Warrington and St Helen's have come together to aid the Steve Prescott Foundation. The duo will be supporting the GPW Recruitment St Helens 10K Run 2014 with the help of Warrington-based specialist running retailer Run Geek - the official retail partner for the event on Sunday 9 March.
The race, which begins at Langtree Park (home ground of St. Helens RLFC) is expected to attract up to 1,500 runners. The foundation, which supports The Christie and Try Assist, has already raised hundreds of thousands of pounds, prior to Steve's passing away in November. The partnership will see Run Geek working with the organisers on merchandise initiatives to boost fund raising on the day, as well as providing a full retail service for entrants and spectators.
Run Geek will be helping to promote entries via their regular Sunday morning social runs which take place at 9.15am from the shop, which is located in Warrington town centre. Sam Wareing, Managing Director of Run Geek, commented: "We are delighted to support the race, and given the recent passing away of Steve, we are determined to help make this the most successful event so far. As a business our roots are very much within Rugby League as well as running, and we are very excited about some of the opportunities this gives us to support both sports."
The St Helens 10K is seen as a key event in the fundraising calendar with all entrants who raise over £120 for the Steve Prescott Foundation gaining free entry. Registration, otherwise, is priced at £18 (£20 non-affiliated) In addition to the 10k, a 2k race will be held for 6-11 year olds.
