Richard Weir and Ben Fish both recorded sub 30 minute performances at the Trafford 10K on Sunday (10 March), with the Derby AC runner taking top spot by eight seconds. The event also saw Non Stanford set a new course record in the female field, with the Welsh triathlete finishing in 32:40.
Organised by Altrincham and District AC, the race starts at Partington Leisure Centre in south Manchester, and is known for its fast and flat course. Weir, fresh from a strong showing at the Armagh International Road Race, took full advantage of the conditions with a PB to finish in 29:50. Blackburn Harriers' Ben Fish followed (29:58), with David Webb rounding off the podium positions in 30:02.
The most impressive performance, however, came from GB international Non Stanford, who sliced an incredible two minutes off her PB and set a new course record. Stanford finished in 32:40, with Cardiff AC's Ava Hutchinson second in 33:18, and Sonia Samuels third (33:39).
With an entry limit of 800, the race drew in an impressive 745 competitors, with the mid-point runner finishing in 44:43, and the last participant home in 1:33:20. More information and race photos are available on the Trafford 10k facebook page, with results here.
