Set in a midsummer evening through the cobbled streets of an historic city, the Durham City Run will make a welcome return to the racing calendar on Wednesday 19 July. 5k and 10k races will once again be the highlight of the evening organised by Events of the North supported by Durham County Council.
Launch of the 2017 staging occurred last week with confirmation that the Prince Bishops Shopping Centre would be the headline sponsor. The inaugural staging of the Durham City Run made an immediate impact with over 2,000 taking part last summer.
Looking ahead to 2017, the 5k and 10k races start simultaneously in the ancient market square with both finishing at Palace Green in between the Cathedral and the Castle – following in the footsteps of pilgrims who have climbed the hill for almost a thousand years.
The route, has been designed to offer excellent vantage points for spectators, while the race time, set at 7.15pm, will offer a further draw for those looking to come along and see the city in its evening splendour.
Steve Cram from Events of the North comments: “The first Prince Bishops Durham City Run was a huge success last year. It presented a proper challenge, but also an opportunity to run in a beautiful setting. We were delighted with the high level of entries and the great atmosphere that was created by supporters out on the course – there was a lot of love for the event!
“We are really looking forward to working with Durham County Council and Prince Bishops Shopping Centre to deliver another excellent summer event on the North East sporting calendar.”
Entries for the Prince Bishops Durham City Run are now open and priced at £22 (£24 affiliated) for the 10K and £15 (£13) for the 5K. Registration is available here.
