Plusnet On Top At Yorkshire

The Plusnet team for the 2016 Yorkshire Marathon

The Plusnet team who competed at the recent Yorkshire Marathon proved to be the strongest over 26.2 miles with the company coming first in the relay event. Broken into six legs, the Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay has become a popular fixture of the marathon festival, which now includes a 10 mile race.

With the shorter distance, the relay is seen as accessible to runners of all abilities and is open to companies, sports clubs, groups of friends and other organisations. As well as a great networking opportunity, the relay is one of the biggest corporate running events in the north of England

The company, which has offices in Leeds and Sheffield, saw its six-strong team record a winning time of 2:53:30, almost seven minutes ahead of law firm Eversheds, who clocked 3:00:19, with Gastronauts – a team from Northern Gas Networks – taking third spot in a time of 3:03:07.

In the mixed category the honours went to Running on Gas, of Leeds, with a time of 3:22:09. Five minutes behind was UHY Calvert Smith, of York, in second and Best Western Warriors, also of York, finished third in 3:35:07.OSCARS Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity, winners of last year’s female category, clocked 4:31:10 to retain their crown.

Andy Baker, CEO  of Plusnet said: “It’s always great to see our employees taking part in the corporate relay and I’m over the moon that their training has paid off. I’m sure they’ll be back again next year to defend their title.”

The Yorkshire Marathon festival, part of the Run For All series, attracted an impressive field of over 6,000 participants, with Paul Martelletti (2:19:36) and Sarah Lowery (2:43:53) triumphing over 26.2 miles.
